From the Founder

“Italy was the place that made me fall in love with travel all over again, as it captivated my heart and soul with its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes that seem to have been painted by the hands of the gods themselves. The remarkable balance of timeless culture, which is evident in its art, architecture, and traditions, breathtaking scenery that ranges from the rolling hills of Tuscany to the stunning Amalfi Coast, and effortless charm found in its quaint villages and bustling cities is something I believe everyone should experience—just not in a rush, and never through a mass-market itinerary that often overlooks the hidden gems and authentic experiences that truly define this beautiful country. That’s why at Lap of Luxury Travel, we meticulously handpick every hotel, every guide, and every transfer, ensuring that your time in Italy should feel personal, refined, and completely stress-free, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in the experience rather than feeling like just another tourist in a crowded group. From a private boat ride through the enchanting canals of Venice, where you can glide past historic landmarks while enjoying the serene atmosphere, to a hands-on pasta-making class in the picturesque countryside of Tuscany, where you can learn traditional recipes and techniques from local chefs, we’ll plan it your way—flawlessly, tailoring every detail to match your preferences and desires for an unforgettable journey.”

Italy in November & December

Temperatures start to cool off more significantly in Italy during November. In Milan and Verona you will need winter coats with temperatures not exceeding 11°C (51.8°F). In the south things are milder at around 18°C (64.4°F), but feeling much cooler in the evenings. Rain is possible everywhere and, along with December, November is considered southern Italy’s wettest month. The weather in Italy during December is decidedly wintery, feeling cold with plenty of rain (and snow on higher ground). We love to experience the festive atmosphere in the main cities of Rome, Florence and Venice in December, don’t expect temperatures to get much over 10°C (50°F) and in the north it will feel colder.

Italy in September and October

September stands out as one of the best times to explore Italy. The early part of the month still enjoys the warmth of August but without the throngs of tourists, while the latter half brings cooler temperatures, ideal for hiking and cycling through the picturesque landscapes of Tuscany and Puglia, for instance. To give you an idea of what to expect weather-wise, temperatures in Rome can reach around 27°C (81°F), whereas in northern regions like Lake Como, the average is about 19°C (66°F). October is another excellent time to visit Italy, with Rome experiencing pleasant temperatures around 20°C (68°F) and fewer visitors providing a more enjoyable sightseeing experience. In the southern parts, expect temperatures ranging from 18-23°C (64-73°F) along with the possibility of occasional rain. Immersing yourself in the cultural and architectural wonders of Palermo or indulging in fine dining along the Amalfi Coast can be a delightful way to enjoy the region, even if some rain does occur.

Summer in Italy: July and August

July represents the height of summer in Italy, attracting a mix of both international and local tourists. It is the hottest month in the northern regions, with cities such as Verona, Emilia Romagna, and Lake Como reaching average temperatures around 29°C (84°F), which feels even warmer during the peak sunlight hours. The months of July and August also bring a brief, light rainy season to the Lake Como area. In southern Italy, August stands out as the warmest month, with regions like Puglia, the Amalfi Coast, Sicily, Sardinia, and central cities including Rome often surpassing 30°C (86°F). If you plan to visit Italy in August, we recommend either joining the throngs at the beaches for a refreshing swim or escaping to the cooler temperatures of Piedmont, the Dolomites, or the Alps.

Discovering Italy in May and June

May offers a splendid experience in Italy, as spring reaches its peak. Look out for wild orchids in Sardinia, almond blossoms in Sicily, and climbing wisteria adorning the cities. You can anticipate sunny days with sporadic rain, with average midday temperatures around 21°C (70°F) in central Italy, including Florence. The southern regions will feel warmer, while the northern parts will be cooler. Summer officially begins on June 20th in Italy, so temperatures will start to rise throughout the country. By June, places like Rome, Puglia, and the Amalfi Coast will experience warmer days, often reaching 25°C (77°F). Visiting the Amalfi Coast in June can be delightful, just prior to the influx of tourists in July.

Spring in Italy: March & April

The end of March signifies the beginning of spring in Italy, accompanied by warmer and sunnier days. Early in the month, temperatures in the northern regions may still dip close to 0°C (32°F), with snowfall possible in elevated areas. However, by the month's end, places like Rome, Capri, and Sicily—situated at lower altitudes—will experience more summery conditions as temperatures approach 20°C (68°F). April brings the full embrace of spring across Italy, with temperatures typically ranging between 12°C (54°F) and 20°C (68°F). The southern regions and Rome, which is part of central Italy, enjoy the warmest weather. In contrast, the northern cities, including Milan and Venice, tend to remain cool, particularly during the morning and evening hours. Therefore, it’s wise to bring layers for outdoor dining at night and early morning adventures.

Italy During January and February

January marks the coldest period in Italy, often presenting a blend of winter conditions, from bright, sunny days to snowy and rainy weather. In the Dolomites, temperatures can plummet below -5°C (23°F), offering breathtaking scenery with snowy landscapes and frozen lakes. With an average of 10 sunny days in January, the Dolomites transform into a picturesque winter paradise that is definitely worth a visit. February continues the winter trend in Italy, with chilly temperatures, rain, and snow prevalent, especially in the Alps and Dolomites. However, regions further south, such as Puglia and Sicily, experience milder weather, with temperatures possibly reaching around 15°C (59°F). Even with these more pleasant temperatures in the south, travelers should still expect a wintry ambiance throughout the country in February.

When Is The Ideal Time To Visit Italy?

The ideal times to explore Italy are during the spring months of April and May, as well as in autumn, specifically September and October, when the climate is mild and crowds are lighter. In Rome, you can expect temperatures to be between 20°C and 25°C (68°F to 77°F). The summer months of June through August can be quite warm, often surpassing 30°C (86°F), and popular tourist destinations tend to be packed. This peak travel period aligns with school summer vacations, and many locals take their holidays in August, particularly around Ferragosto on the 15th. It is advisable to secure accommodations well in advance during this busy season. Weather conditions differ across regions; for instance, the Amalfi Coast experiences temperatures of approximately 22°C (71.6°F) in October, whereas the Dolomites can see temperatures drop to 5°C (41°F) toward the end of the month.

"Borgo Egnazia isn’t just a resort — it’s a revelation."

Located along the sun-drenched Adriatic coast of Puglia, Borgo Egnazia is where tradition meets uncompromising luxury. Built to resemble an ancient Italian village, every stone pathway, lantern-lit courtyard, and olive-lined alley tells a story — yet the service, spa, and design are unmistakably world-class.

You won’t find the tourist crowds of the Amalfi or Florence here — just authentic southern Italian magic, Michelin-starred dining, cliffside sea views, and a sense of serenity that feels untouched by time. It’s ideal for honeymooners, wellness retreats, or anyone who’s done the “big names” and is ready for something quietly spectacular.

For those who want the real Italy — elevated — this is my personal favorite.

Do I need a visa to travel to Italy from the U.S.?

No. U.S. passport holders can enter Italy for up to 90 days without a visa for tourism. Just make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date. This will change in 2026
